Number of species[edit]

To justify removing the confusion about 7 types of species: it obviously only comes up when humans are counted seperate.

Humans will be one of the predefined races that can be picked for a "quick start" (as mentioned in the preview from GameStar http://www.gamestar.de/spiele/stellaris-/artikel/stellaris,52692,3234846.html) - likely among one of each phenotype, including a more 'feral' mammalian (probably something with fur) making 7 "races". Of course you can create your own on top of that and the AI races will always be randomly generated.

Anthopoid?[edit]

shouldn't it be "Arthropod"? An "Anthopid" is a zoology term used to describe "human-like primates". An "Arthropod" is an invertebrate animal having an exoskeleton, a segmented body, and jointed appendages. Like insects and arachnids. --Moglus (talk) 13:57, 29 September 2015 (CEST)

Another Molluscoid Species Picture...[edit]

Adding in info for the preorder exclusive race and the Creatures of the Void DLC[edit]

The preorder launch has introduced 6 new species:

  1. the exclusive space spiders
  2. "Hydra/Xenomorph"
  3. "Evil Porcupine"
  4. "Dinosaur Bird"
  5. "Shadowy Anthropoid"
  6. "Fungoid Infected Mammalian"

While the 5 species to be included in the Creatures of the Void DLC don't yet have artwork released of them yet (april 16th, 2016) likely due to them not having yet finished the DLC, the exclusive space spiders actually have had a picture of them released.

Thus I propose creating a new section in the article for the Creatures of the Void DLC which can be modified later once the DLC is released or more info comes forth, and that arthropoid section gets info on the space spiders since they're likely to be put in that phenotype.

I have cut out the following portrait of the space spider from this advertisement for the nova edition of the preorder, to be used for the proposed subsection on the arthropoid section of the article: space_spider.png

Flexboxes[edit]

Hi, I changed the mammalian table to a flexbox based layout, after I noticed the hard-coded 2-row 9-column table was causing overflow on small screens and shrinkage on mobile. I realize the inline styles are super bloated, but hopefully an admin can use CSS to clean that up in the future. IE 8 & 9 don't support flexboxes, but should see a decent inline-block fallback. IE 7 and earlier is a mess, I'm afraid, is that okay? If the flexboxes are working well, I can switch the other tables over to flexboxes too, but please let me know if there are any problems. 75.50.96.20 06:40, 9 May 2016 (CEST)

That is far too much html code. Please go back to standard wikitables or galleries. We're not going to change CSS for one page when we have a network of 9 wikis to maintain, it sets an awful precedent. Dauth (talk) 08:39, 9 May 2016 (CEST)

The aim is to keep the code as simple as possible for future users. While maintaining the wiki style. Having fixed widths can be a real pain on mobile browsers so allowing the mediawiki software free reign is almost always better. Dauth (talk) 13:16, 9 May 2016 (CEST)

Its more a habit of mine to keep the wikis as simple as possible. This I agree doesn't cause problems but it doesn't make the wiki significantly better. You'll also have an easier time editing the wikis if you make an account. Dauth (talk) 10:09, 10 May 2016 (CEST)

Species codes[edit]

Barcode180 please keep in mind that the names are not random, those are the ones used to identify each species in-game. Renaming them defeats that purpose. KaTiON (talk) 11:05, 9 May 2016 (CEST)

Rename to Phenotypes?[edit]

The entire article is about the different available Phenotypes (word used by the game).

If the article is renamed to reflect the actual content it together with Ethos and Traits can go under a Species category/game concept/section instead of all being under Governance (front-page) or spread out between Exploration and Others (categories).

Machine vs Mechanoid[edit]

In the streams PDX has been showcasing the group name as Machine, but should that remain as so for the category on this page or change it to Mechanoid as to follow the style of other categories? KaTiON (talk) 01:16, 10 September 2017 (CEST)

I'm not sure why they didn't just call the phenotype Mechanoid to begin with. If it's officially known as Machine in-game then probably it should stay as Machine on the wiki article just to keep the consistency, but if it didn't have to be the same I'd personally prefer Mechanoid to refer to it because it is consistent with the other phenotype names. Different order[edit]

It looks like the portrait order was changed; in my game at least, Arthropoid #19 is no longer at the end, but now located between Massive #13 and Arthropoid #18. Could someone please confirm? ShiroSWR (talk) 17:49, 23 December 2017 (CET)
