Yellow Template request[edit]

Could we get a Template:Yellow like we have for Template:Green and Template:Red for use on the Factions page? Thanks!

Working on it. Hopefully by the end of the day. Dauth (talk) 11:04, 8 April 2017 (CEST)
Up and running now. Let me know if you need any more help. Dauth (talk) 11:25, 8 April 2017 (CEST)
Thanks again! --WealthyAardvark (talk) 05:10, 10 April 2017 (CEST)

German translation[edit]

hey Dauth, its me again, G-man from ST: New Horizons. we have now a few no teammates, which are bring ther focus to our wikipage. but here is a general question, our community its strongly based in english and german countrys. so we would like to add a translated wiki /german for each of our page. what is the best approach for it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Grinsel (talk) 14:34, 10 September 2017‎ (CEST)

Hi Grinsel, If you want to put up translations of the English content then using subpages would probably be the best approach. The typical approach would be to append the English page with /de to indicate that it is in German. For example ST_NewHorizons/de . Dauth (talk) 22:47, 10 September 2017 (CEST)

How do I add building icons correctly?[edit]

Ever since I updated the buildings page I was hoping someone would add the missing icons but as nobody did I tried to do it myself and ran into a problem. I tried to add the Sacred Nexus icon from the game files but the image is smaller and half of it is just empty space. Take a look at the temples section on the buildings page. What did I do wrong? Did Meneth and SolSys edit theirs before uploading them? Or did I get the wrong file? I searched the game folder by file name and I could only find building images in gfx\interface\icons\buildings. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kami-sama (talk) 20:37, 16 March 2015 (CET)

If you look at the other temples buildings you can see that they're at a lower resolution so they have been cut down. You can trim the file. I'll also alert Meneth and SolSys to this comment and see if they have any more information. When you use a talk page please remember to sign your edit with ~~~~. Thanks, Dauth (talk) 20:59, 29 November 2017 (CET)
They are edited versions of the game files. ~ SolSys (talk) 21:18, 29 November 2017 (CET)

Icon Linking[edit]

I noticed a bunch of icons, for example the Alien Zoo icon under "Animal Evaluation Laboratory" on the Buildings page, lead to the wrong places or even completely empty pages. Is there a way I can fix this? ShiroSWR (talk) 17:26, 15 January 2018 (CET)

Yes you can, you can edit the {{Icon}} subtemplates here. The icon template is big and is broken down by letter to make it manageable. The images are listed next to the link that they use. If you do add any new links to the template you will also need to update the documentation Template:Icon/doc. If you make changes to it then you will probably need to give the template up to 24 hours to propagate through the wiki before seeing results so don't worry if you've fixed something and it takes a while to work. I hope this makes sense. Dauth (talk) 19:07, 15 January 2018 (CET)
I think I can figure the rest out, thank you. ShiroSWR (talk) 21:07, 15 January 2018 (CET)

Undoings[edit]

I think SolSys undid a couple changes I made regarding icon size (turning things to the default of 24px) by accident without checking what they were about. Or maybe I just stumbled upon an unspoken rule that keeps icons on wildly different sizes :P Either way, please tell me what to do now because I think having everything on 24px default looks more tidy and consistent. ShiroSWR (talk) 17:56, 16 January 2018 (CET)

The default size for icons is 24px (buildings etc are 52) so there's no need to force it. With the buildings we use 21px as they don't have the curved faded edges of the round icons, the curved icons make the icon look smaller to the reader so a curved 24 is close to a straight edged 21. If this isn't clear you'll probably get more detail from SolSys directly. Dauth (talk) 18:04, 16 January 2018 (CET)

Permission to delete pages[edit]

Can I get the permission to delete pages? I would like to delete the following ones:

  • File:Hive Asteroid.png - I uploaded it but I wouldn't have bothered if I knew they would add event images for it.
  • orbital bombardment - I integrated an updated version of it in the Land Warfare page since the 2.0 update turned bombardment into a mostly anti-army mechanic.
  • spaceport - but only after SolSys is done with the Starbase and images in case he could use something from it.

Kami-sama (talk) 22:40, 23 February 2018 (CET)

Deletion of pages comes with a number of other rights. We'd have to promote you to half op. For the moment it would be better to mark them with the delete template and then one of the existing hops/moderators can do the deletion. For the orbital bombardment page and spaceport pages I'd rather replace them with redirects so that people who search for older page names instead are redirected to the current names. Dauth (talk) 23:48, 23 February 2018 (CET)
I deleted a page months ago, some image from an outdated version, so I thought allowing that would be easy. It even handled the redirect thing. Anyway I didn't try to use the delete tag because I remembered it not working long ago but it seems that's fixed. I'll do that now, thanks for the help ^_^ Kami-sama (talk) 00:00, 24 February 2018 (CET)
Hmm, there's nothing in your deletion log here. The deletion tag just puts pages in a category and then one of the moderators/hops will eventually look through them and make a decision. Dauth (talk) 01:17, 24 February 2018 (CET)
I guess I moved something back then and thought I deleted it. Anyway thanks for the help. Kami-sama (talk) 01:58, 24 February 2018 (CET)

Minor request - blue color[edit]

Do you mind adding a blue color template like Meneth did with the red and green ones? I just want to make the first "Shield" word in Space warfare#Damage blue like I colored the first "Hull Points" and "Armor" words. I though to have them match the color of the game health bars. Kami-sama (talk) 12:20, 4 March 2018 (CET)

Only Meneth can do the css edits required to make this work. I'll have a word and let you know. My only request is keep the use of colour to a minimum, otherwise it becomes unreadable. Cheers, Dauth (talk) 12:41, 4 March 2018 (CET)
Done. Might take a bit for it to work everywhere. ~ Meneth (talk) 12:43, 4 March 2018 (CET)

Modding Navigation Pane[edit]

Hey, Dauth. I frequently access the main modding page, and whenever I want to navigate to a subpage, I have to scroll all the way to the bottom to click a link. I had moved the modding link navigator to the top of the modding page, and I see you reverted that. I believe that frequent accessors to the pages can navigate the site more quickly if the various nav panes are at the top, and not at the bottom, hidden below a lot of scrolling. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Courageous (talk) 13:38, 21 July 2018‎ (CET)

Hi Courageous. You make a good point but the edit itself broke a number of conventions of the wikis. The version category and the table of contents take priority above the content with a small summary of text allowed above the TOC. Secondly all modding pages have a copy of the navbox at the bottom of the page. This is a consistent feature that we intent to maintain. A better solution would be to copy the navbox and place it below the table of contents in the manner I have done now. We also like to keep talk pages chronological and your comment has been moved to the bottom and therefore most recent point on my page. It is also helpful to sign you edits on talk pages using ~~~~. I hope this explains the decision, Dauth (talk) 12:33, 22 July 2018 (CEST)
Hi, Dauth. I'm tracking what you are saying. I let the matter rest, and considered it for a week. Here's the thing. That navbox really is a TOC for all of modding. So if you are to be consistent with wanting a TOC at the top, it really would be better for it to be at the very top. Viewers would learn to quickly look past it, and consider what is below it to be part of the page. I think that would be less jarring than having a pseudo-TOC inserted at somewhat variable locations within each page. That variability would look weird, whereas with a consistent top position, everyone would get used to it. An alternate option would be to adopt a sidebar for the navbox for each modding page, somewhat similar to the main (non-modding) paradox game pages. I'm 50/50 on that. Courageous (talk) 14:26, 29 July 2018 (CEST)
You mean something like the version history on the sides for patches? – Lillebror (talk) 17:19, 29 July 2018 (CEST)
Click on "Paradox Wikis" over on the left. Then click on any of the various wikis and see the "Important Pages" sidebar. That would be acceptable for all modding related pages, so we can quick nav around. I still think top is better. While PDX has apparently set an internal standard for putting the navbox somewhere other than the top, web viewers every where are highly accustomed to a top set of navlinks for quick navigation. The PDX standard is therefore add odds with larger community standards, and should probably therefore be changed. Courageous (talk) 19:15, 29 July 2018 (CEST)

[Unindented] A few points of consideration:

  1. You can get to the bottom of a page with a single click of a button ["Page Down" on PC]. No need for unnecessary scrolling.
  2. The location of the nav-links differ from one website to another and the consistency you mention is more a matter of a fashion trend at times than anything else [floating annoying side-navs?].
  3. The PDX wikis follow the general wikis standards and as such are not "at odds" with any self-proclaimed community standards -- in actuality, it is more of a UX design standard/question.
  4. It is fine to be passionate about something, but when construding arguments it is best not to cite personal likings as something other than they are.

By now two modrators tried to reach out and accommodate your request -- with you continuing to push for the "right" answer. I'd say @Lillebror's suggestion is a good compromise considering nav-columns are helpful yet non-intrusive enough. SolSys (talk) 20:26, 29 July 2018 (CEST)

The below was written before SolSys's edit arrived.
The important pages are a front page feature of the wikis to guide newer readers to the places of most importance. The TOC is generated by the mediawiki software for any page with 3 or more level 2 headers and will display down to level 4 headers (level 1 headers are strongly discouraged and appear on non of the maintained pages). The TOC can be suppressed or called elsewhere but this is not suitable for the modding page. The placement of the navbox is consistent across all PDX wikis. Introducing a new sidebar for the modding pages only would require significant CSS work, especially as new modding pages are added regularly. You suggestion about matching website design for ease of use and quick links is interesting but would create an awful mess when applied to the wikis, we have several pages that appear in multiple navboxes as the contents are applicable to both. That in itself is enough to prevent it happening. In the specific case of the modding navbox it can be seen when the page is viewed on a 1920*1080 monitor which is by far the most common resolution, as this is the case it will also apply to higher resolutions. Unreasonable ban[edit]

So recently I tried to add an image to the possibly outdated images page, but I couldn't figure it out. So I went back to the discussion page to ask you to elaborate. Then the abuse filter banned me for violating rule number 3. Ban ID #2594. I... what? This doesn't make any sense and I'd like you either to remove the ban or explain to me what the filter thought I was doing, because I'm clueless.

You tried to use a full url to link to an image. We don't allow anonymous IPs to provide external links to the wikis, this is to prevent spambots and other malicious edits. The command you should have used is File:Card_system.png. To add the page to the category you want to, you need to add an example of the version template to the page, I'd suggest [[Version|1.5]] or newer as the older categories have already been removed. I hope this explains what happened. SolSys reverted the ban, please do sign your edits with ~~~~. Thanks, Dauth (talk) 18:52, 13 December 2018 (CET)

Earned ticket[edit]

Hello, I'm here to ask the reason why about nearly 10 points in the current contest miss from my score. I completed the main interface, the empire interface and the diplomacy interface. Those are 120 points but I see only 110 in my score. Besides, in the list above the 35 points from the diplomacy page are still there, so I doesn't know if I didn't complete the work or simply there is an error. What does it mean? Should I add something to the diplo interface? Maybe the explanatinon of the diplo map? Thanks, Lordlory95 (talk)

Hi, this handled by me. Due to time constraints I did not fully checked it. will do so later today. Thanks. ~ SolSys (talk) 06:04, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
