Version tags

Hi and welcome to the wiki. As it happens, several of your past edits have had to be reversed. Please refrain from changing Version tags unless the article/section is fully updated. Well the new relevant data was not for the standard traits section, it was for the one below. That's why I updated the version after writing the only 1.8 change that wasn't already done by someone else. Then I moved on to the last section since that needed a bit more time. If you're talking about just refreshing the page from my browser to load it again that's not the problem, take a look at the file history and see how the current one doesn't update. Judging by the file history I suppose SolSys had the same issue with it. I remember having had this problem with the a Fallen Empire image too and ended up having to upload it under a different name to show correctly. Maybe deleting the Sacred Nexus file and uploading it again with the image edited by SolSys would work, or it might still fail because of the same name. To be fair, it is an issue only in really specific cases -- which then can be solved through force-refresh. The reason it works this way is to help you browse the web faster and reduce data congestion on the ISPs infrastructure. For example, if you watch a popular video from YouTube, you are likely not to access any Alphabet servers as the ISP probably saved the video on its local server to reduce some of the overhead. ~ SolSys (talk) 23:47, 30 November 2017 (CET)

Icon template

Make sure refrain from deleting old icon entries. They may be still in use across the wiki and are referenced in the historical edits. If an entry is no longer relevant, move it to the bottom obsolete/outdated section [with a note]. ~ SolSys (talk) 14:29, 24 February 2018 (CET)

I assume you're talking about the mausoleum icon, I only deleted it because it's not mentioned anywhere on the wiki and the icon is now used for the habitat administration. If the icon would've simply been unused in the game I would've left it in the outdated section so that it remains accessible in case it's brought back into the game or recycled. Star classification

You reverted my edit to the https://stellaris.paradoxwikis.com/Celestial_body#Stars with the reasoning "The staff always insisted that the list remains alphabetic. At least the game doesn't have class O stars." Admittedly, I should have checked the edit history first, but it seems like the most recent edit pertaining to this was a re-ordering based solely on the listing in the game files. If you can find a comment from wiki staff on the matter, I'll gladly accept the edit.

However, as it stands, I see no reason to sort this list alphabetically. Not only is it against real-world practice, but it's clear from the star's visuals (i.e. the icons) that B should be placed above A. It would be like rearranging the rainbow from "Red-Orange-Yellow-Green-Blue-Indigo-Violet" to "Blue-Green-Indigo-Orange-Red-Violet-Yellow" - it just doesn't make sense. But now that I read this again, this applied before I split the table because they added special effects to black holes, neutron stars and pulsars so I think it no longer applies. The order in the in game files can be found here: Stellaris\common\planet_classes\00_planet_classes.txt. As a moderator I don't mind which order is used as long as it is clearly defined. Either alphabetically or listed as in the game files or listed in the order of stellar evolution. A link to stellar evolution on wikipedia for the order or stars would not go amiss here. This seems to require a bit of clarification on my part -- all other sorting on the page is alphabetical, so this one ended up that way too. "Real life" order [or order within the game files] has of little importance as most of the users are not aware of star order classifications [or how it is ordered within the game files], but hopefully they are aware of the order of the alphabet. As the table is small it is not a big issue to break the default sorting since you can see the whole thing immediately, but it should be of good reason. ~ SolSys (talk) 14:21, 26 February 2018 (CET)
Actually, there is already a precedent for non-alphabetic sorting: the Habitable Worlds section, which groups them by their climate type. I've in favor of alphabetical sorting for consistency, but only when it doesn't compromise on meaning or content, and this is one of those cases. The star classes in Stellaris are based on real stellar classifications, which do have an order, and alphabetical sorting would lose that meaning. That said, linking to the Wikipedia article is a good call, as it gives readers who don't know about the topic a reason as to why they're out of order. Also, sparking an edit war was never my intention, especially given that I'm a new user and it's such a minor detail. TristanBomb (talk)
That is fine -- and there is no edit war. As you have noted, many places on the wiki have non-default sorting to help understand them [tech, perks, and etc.]. The original table contained additional entries [aside from the star classes] than the current one so a regular ordering deemed more beneficial. It is more reasonable to have the spectral sorting now than it was before so all is fine [with a note explaining the sorting of course]. ~ SolSys (talk) 09:39, 27 February 2018 (CET)

While I don't disagree with the rewrite tag on the population page. That decision is normally reserved for the moderating team. Hopefully when we mark a page for a rewrite we should also take the time to explain what needs changing on the talk pages. If you would like to list these too then I'm happy to let it stand. Strategic Resources

If you prefer working on Stellaris then you can look at the Category:Articles by version for the oldest pages. Updates to them are very helpful for the wiki. Job icons and building descriptions

Are you sure that removing job icons and building descriptions from the Buildings page is a good idea? I feel that the icons make jobs seem more distinct. And I think that we should include more in-game information about the buildings on the page, not less. - 83.20.238.78 16:11, 16 December 2018 (CET)

I wasn't big on removing the icons either but I did it so civic/authority/AP icons could be used on the new jobs column. As for removing the flavor text descriptions, I previewed the table with it after adding the new column and no matter how I resized it there wasn't enough space to keep every job line on the same line. Change to Console Commands

Hi, is there a specific reason you changed the console commands page so drastically? It was quite a nice overview from a user perspective. Now, there are certain important commands missing. Because the page was getting very hard to load for people with slower internet. To fix that I removed the descriptions for traits and deposits since I believe people who want to add a specific one via console commands already know what it does from the game or the wiki. As for the leader traits, I removed them because the console already tells you all trait keys for a leader's class if you enter the leader ID but not the trait key, I wrote it in the command description. It was a duplication of information not via transclusion. Simply put -- the info alrady exists on dedicated articles around the wiki and this was merely a simple copy of that article. While it may come to some as "so what's the problem?" one needs to consider the unnecessary overhead it creates when an update to that info is required. Hope this helps. Trade Value generated by pops

Why would someone be looking for trade value on the species rights page? I'm honestly baffled by this. What lead to the decision to leave the text vaguely mentioning that trade value is generated by pops but for it to be found *nowhere* on the wiki but species rights? I absolutely think that's where it should be. I understand there's a guideline against duplication, and I understand that this information can't be easily transcluded. However, that is why I placed it on the trade page - as ultimately this is trade related information. It's not something I would expect to see on the species rights page. My suggestion would be threefold. 1) Re-Addition of the color-coding and icons into the chart that's back on the trade page (good changes on your part, I see no problems with them). 2) For the moment linking from the species rights page, living standards section to the trade value sub-heading so that anyone looking will have all the relevant information. 3) Asking another regular wiki editor if they have any ideas for better placing this information on both pages without duplication. Civics AWOL

Hey. Normally I'd revert your change to Government and write you off as a griefer, but I thought I'd check first. I'm assuming you're working on moving it or some such and won't do that this time. However, by deleting the civics information before transplanting or modifying it (or whatever it is you're doing) you've caused me around fifteen minutes of head scratching, followed by about five minutes of seething, then however long it took me to decide to do something about it, check you out then write this message. I'm still just about assuming you've got a method and it wasn't an accident, but I'm not mollified yet. Hence this little rant. In future could you please only delete information when it exists outside of a history page?

I didn't delete the info, I updated and moved it to its own page and linked it on the government page via a navigation box added at the top of the page. Both were done in the same edit to ensure the info wouldn't be removed for a moment. As for the hyperlink, did you try to use an URL instead of Government? If not this should be looked into. Hey, sorry, I can see that now! Apparently it takes time for the search tables to get updated? Unless I solely used Startpage searches instead of the wiki, which would have been pretty dumb. Bit too faded from memory for me to be sure now but it might be worth testing it out next time you create a page just to see. (With some further consideration I'm as certain as I can be that I'd have done a search on the wiki for Civics before commenting on your talk. There was definitely a lag there).
As for the hyperlink I didn't consider the format, yeah. If I'd thought about it at all it would have been obvious, I guess I just thought of the talk box as being a different organism.

Event Template

About federation challenge section

  • 1. The winning weight in Arena Combat and Psionic Battles is NOT the winning odds.
    • A Fanatic Pacifist.pngLeader trait psionic chosen one.png Fanatic Pacifist Chosen One (FPCH) has +490 winning odds and a normal Chosen One (NCH) has +500 winning odds. In this case, the NCH falls into the +500 winning weight category and the FPCH falls into the +60 winning weight category, which means the FPCH have NO advantage against a +60 winning odds leader.
    • I know that this is complexed and confusing. It should be and could have been implemented much more easier and comprehensible. But this is what the script says.
  • 2. You don't forfeit Thesis Defense because of not having a scientist leading each area. You forfeit only because you don't have three or more scientists.
    • Your team will consist of randomly picked five scientists in your empire, while your area research leaders will always be included if present.
    • Again, it's complexed and confusing, but that's how the script reads.

You can put back the new capital building tables. You can put back the rest of buildings and jobs too but only if you are completely sure your layout is better. You are a very good editor who did a lot and I particularly love your contributions on the modding pages.

[Moderator edit] First, let us all calm down. When using the written form please remember that tone is not carried to others so be mindful when writing comments to each other. As for the problem -- make a compromise. The 2nd table does look cleaner, but it also omits info. Always remember that not everyone knows what every icon means. I'm so sorry, but I didn't mean to show anger or aggressiveness, and if I was, I would have just redone my edits before writting comments to you, because in my opinion, three days is a wide window for a reply and not replying for more than three days shows refusal to communicate. It was not an ultimatum and I was just curious about why my edits must be undone, and I was so sure that mine is better that I will certainly redo my edits if you don't reply.
I wish this not to happen again, and if it does, maybe I will choose another word that doesn't seem like an ultimatum.

You have changed the range symbol in the description of Trait lithoid.png Lithoid on the Traits page.

This is your edited version. "-" is a good range symbol, but in this case, it may confuse with minus.

I have also considered "to", but "o" can confuse with zero.

It is all nice, but it was already decided long ago to use "−" instead of "-" to indicate a negative number partly for the reasons stated above (as is done on the other wikis). And don't color the "to" as its just adding to the confusion. ~ SolSys (talk) 09:12, 30 May 2020 (UTC)
